Homework Hacks

All of us come home every day with the arguably worst part of our day: homework. Many of us are tired from school and sometimes find ourselves trapped in a procrastination cycle. So, what are ways to get your work done in order to have more free time on your hands?

According to Kids’ Health’s website, there are five main strategies that can help your productivity:

  • Create a homework plan: This can look like scheduling very specific times for homework. It can be very helpful to get a planner that can map out what you need to achieve, especially if you have an out-of-school activity.

  • Watch where you work: Being in the living room with a movie on might not be the best environment for getting work done, as you can become distracted easily. Make sure wherever you are is conductive to getting homework done. Also avoid your bed as a study area; a desk or table will help your mind adjust to working better than a more relaxing environment like your bed or sofa.

  • Get to work: Try to get the harder assignments done before the others. Also, try taking breaks periodically, but not too long! If you become stuck on a problem, feel free to seek help. In the end, just try your best on each question if you truly can’t find the answer.

  • Get it ready to go: Don’t forget to actually bring it to school! The worst feeling is to have put your best effort on work that you only received half credit for, due to forgetting to place it in your backpack.

  • Get help when you need it: Your teachers offer both tutorial and communications via email, which are resources that should be greatly utilized if you have any concerns. If that isn’t possible, try tutor.com, or ask a fellow classmate for a tip, but don’t copy answers. Plagiarism is a serious issue that can lead to high-degree consequences.

Homework might be a bad experience, but applying these strategies consistently will help getting it out of the way, so you can sleep easily that night.
