“It’s tiiime!” Mariah Carey has officially defrosted. Mariah Carey is an American singer who is very well known for her multiple #1 hits. However, she is best known during the Christmas season for her song, ‘All I Want for Christmas is You’ (1994). This song quickly became a staple to everyone’s Christmas playlist, and fans quickly started referring to her as the “Queen of Christmas.” This nickname has gone so far to the point Carey applied to trademark the phrases, “Queen of Christmas”, “QOC”, and “Princess Christmas.” However, after a month-long legal battle, she ultimately lost and was denied the trademark. Fighting against her was Elizabeth Chan, pop’s only full-time Christmas singer. Chan stated, “Christmas is a season of giving, not the season of taking, and it is wrong for an individual to attempt to own and monopolize a nickname like Queen of Christmas for the purposes of abject materialism.” Chan’s attorney called this, “A classic case of trademark bullying” and was glad that Carey’s “overreaching” trademarks were denied. Carey is still showing her Christmas spirit with her Christmas show, ‘Mariah Carey: Merry Christmas to All’ which will be streaming on CBS and Paramount + on December 20th.
