Here are two new album recommendations, fit for the changing seasons and fervor of exam season. Enjoy, and tell me what you think at stackp23@ensworth.com.
The Forever Story by JID is the Atlanta rapper’s best work yet. My favorite tracks from JID’s new album are
“Radar,” “Money,” and “Can’t Make U Change (feat. Ari Lennox).” Taking from the classical beats of Atlanta rap, “The Forever Story” is a well put-together album where each track flows thematically into the next with excitement and quick succession. While not the most experimental album, the cohesion of the work, lyricism, and quality of features on the tract is to be commended. This is especially true in the samples from Ari Lennox and Brooklyn RnB star JPEG MAFIA. I would deem it a 7/10. Quite good.
Another one of my favorite albums this month has been Lingua Ignota’s new album, GET READY SINNER. Some of my absolute favorite tracks off the album include, “Repent Now Confess Now,” and “The Solitary Breateren of Ephrata,” and ``I Who Bend Tall Grasses.” Stunning runs and vocal performances adorn the track. Taking from her Catholic background, she weaves inspiration from hymns, Neoclassical Dark Wave, and Noise/Industrial Sounds. As someone with a strong religious background, her hymnal homages and loud industrial disruption of the classical Catholic cannon are really wonderous to hear. I would strongly recommend the work. Her live performance at the Basement on the 14th, costing only $25 , was absolutely astonishing. Her classically Brown-conservatory vocals and heartbreaking screams were absolutely wonderful. The crowd was appropriately silent through the two and ½ - 4 hour duration, completely spellbound. I would rate a 9/10.
