In the south, especially Tennessee, like grits, college football, and country music, fast food is a religion. It seems to be one the most popular places to enjoy some of the not-so-healthy meals of our lifetime. Burger King, Wendy’s, Popeyes, KFC, and many other chains have been competing amongst each other for years, but the best of the best are always narrowed down to Chick-Fil-A and McDonald’s. So, let’s discuss the argument, which is better?
McDonald’s is the classic American fast food place. Whether you want the Happy Meal as a child or a Big Mac if you feel a little more hungry, the big yellow ‘M’ never disappoints. It has been and still is ranked the most popular fast food restaurant in the country, taking in over $40 billion in 2019. Prices are another positive for McDonald’s. You can eat mainly the same thing there and Chick-Fil-A, but the average price is always lower at McDonald’s. Being more financially friendly is a big plus. Corporately, McDonald’s is also larger. As of 2022, it has more than 39,000 locations in 123 countries and over 14,000 in the U.S. Overall, McDonald’s will always be famous around the world and especially in the south.
Although McDonald’s is extremely popular here, Chick-Fil-A has grown into a true powerhouse of a company. Ranked the third best fast food in the country behind Starbucks and McDonald’s, Chick-Fil-A is known for its focus on chicken and neglection of beef and burgers. The quality of food is a large factor in this debate as well. Chick-Fil-A has salads, sandwiches, and even their nuggets and tenders are healthier than McDonald’s even though it might be a little more expensive. Chick-Fil-A has also built up a great reputation in the customer satisfaction area. According to the American Customer Service Index, Chick-Fil-A is scored an 83 compared to McDonald’s mediocre 70.
Between the two places, they can be similar. If you want chicken, fries, and a shake, both McDonald’s and Chick-Fil-A would be brought up in the conversation of where to eat. But the differences are what we use to decide the debate of which is better. If you want higher quality food for more money, Chick-Fil-A is your answer, but if you prefer a more classic menu or maybe a more kid-friendly one, McDonald’s will always be around.
