Along with tons of praise for the newly released film, Wicked, the movie has been greeted with speculation and many questions regarding its two co-stars, Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo. With rumors of traumatizing events happening during the filming process, fans are desperate to know what possibly went on behind the scenes of the successful new film.
The first piece of evidence that fans are using to support their claims is the intense emotion that both Grande and Erivo share during interviews. After any question relating to the film, the two frequently begin to cry as they reach for each other's hand. What truly started to concern viewers was the fact that the two cried at every single interview, red-carpet event, and mention relating back to the movie. As fans and interviewers began to wonder why the two got so emotional, they began to wonder if something had gone on during filming to make them so distraught at the thought of the experience. As curiosity grew, interviewers began to question the actresses. One interviewer asked Grande why she and her co-star were so frequently emotional. Grande responded by saying, “‘It’s been three years, people!’”, following up with the question, “‘Why does emotional availability scare you so?’” (Goffe). Backing up Grande’s claims, Erivo stated that the movie has been deeply personal to the both of them, making them tear up at the thought of all their hard work and love for the film. Fans still find the co-stars’ reasoning suspicious for many reasons.
Another one of those reasons being that the two seem to have changed physically over the period of time in which Wicked was being filmed with viewers noticing that the two have become concerningly thin, some even going as far as to describe Grande as “skeleton-like” and “ghostly” due to her new appearance. Many of Grande’s loyal fans have not received this hatred well, with many efforts trying to protect their favorite celebrity and to minimize the allegations and rumors. As Grande became more aware of these comments, she spoke out against the gossip once again saying, “there’s a comfortability that people have commenting on other people that I think is really dangerous” (Groffe). Grande and Erivo both chose to silence the gossip of the press and the film's viewers, continuing with the statement that the movie brought them incredible joy and incredible memories and bonds.
The real story may not have come out yet, but will it be uncovered one day, or are these claims just the usual Hollywood gossip?
